About our Speaker

Karen Unland is building her own media company after many productive and instructive years in mainstream newsrooms. She spent 14 years at the Edmonton Journal as a reporter and in various editorial roles, then left to teach and consult. In 2012, she came back to Postmedia, which owns the Journal among other newspapers, to co-found Capital Ideas, a community of business owners helping business owners by sharing what they know. Now she is embarking on a new venture, the flagship of which is Seen and Heard in Edmonton, a blog and a podcast about bloggers and podcasters in our maker-filled city.
