Celebrating Women in Investing

Join us in celebrating International Women's Day at our conference on March 8th at the Matrix Hotel in Edmonton. Women are increasingly taking the reins in the family, corporate and household finances, yet in a recent study by BMO, results indicated that women were 20% less likely to be confident in making financial decisions than men. The goal of our conference is to help women feel educated, enabled and empowered to gain the confidence to make strong financial decisions and to close this gender gap. At Raintree, our role as a financial advisory firm is to help investors make better decisions. Our view is that you will only make better decisions if you are engaged and equipped with the information to decide your best course of action.

International Women's Day is a worldwide celebration of the social, political and economic achievements of women past, present and future. In some countries including Bulgaria, Russia, Vietnam and China, it is a national holiday and is celebrated by both men and women. International Women's Day has been observed since the early 1900s and continues to be celebrated today.

What can you expect?

Join us for an evening of wine, hors d'oeuvres and inspiration from four renowned female speakers who have developed their careers in finance and are experts in their respective fields. They will each share their unique story in pursuit of educating, enabling and empowering you to make confident financial decisions. Our talented MC, Carrie Doll, will engage the speakers and audience in an interactive Q&A following each presentation and will ensure the evening is spectacular from start to finish. Before embarking on a career of speaking at and organizing events, Carrie spent 13 years as a news anchor for CTV Edmonton.

All conference attendees will receive a Women's Day Gift Bag with contributions from Rocky Mountain Soap Company, Fleurs Flowers, Haiku Lane Jewlery, Triple Flip, The Red Piano and more. Even though this event is for International Women's Day, everyone is welcome to attend! Please note that there is a parking lot behind the Matrix Hotel.

For those of you who do not live in the Edmonton area but would like to take part, there are also tickets available to watch the conference on a live webcast.

Guest Speakers

Allison Taylor, MBA, PM - Invico Capital Corporation

Allison is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Compliance Officer of Invico Capital Corporation, an independent alternative investment fund management firm. Allison will discuss some of the basics of investing and how to get started. She will demystify investments using her experience as a professional portfolio manager and break investment review into more digestible components. She will also provide the audience with steps on how to select a financial advisor.

Kelly Willis, MBA - Newport Private Wealth

Kelly is the VP, Marketing at Newport Private Wealth, one of Canada's largest independent wealth management firms. She is also an enthusiastic investor, a certified money coach and, for the past five years, a widow, whose grief journey led her to help other women feel more confident financially.

Drawing on her industry expertise and her own life experience, Kelly will help you better understand how men and women think and behave differently as investors, the innate skill set that help women succeed as investors, why having a plan is essential and how to better manage your emotions for greater financial peace of mind. Regardless of your financial experience or circumstances, Kelly will leave you feeling touched, inspired and confident.

Alexa Blain, CFA CBV - Deetken Group

Alexa joined the Deetken Group, a company that manages a portfolio of microfinance investments in Latin America, in 2012 to initiate and lead its new asset management division. Prior to joining Deetken, Alexa spent three years in South Africa with African Alliance, a pan-African financial services group that improves the lives of low-income populations through financial access, while providing a return to investors. This type of investing where clients invest in companies, organizations, and funds with the intention of generating a measurable, beneficial social or environmental impact alongside a financial return is called impact investing.

Alexa will share with you her history in this financial strategy and will teach you how to make smart impact investing decisions.

Linda Maslechko - Triple Flip

Linda is CEO and Founder of Calgary-based Triple Flip, a dynamic girls active wear brand that recognized the gap in the market for great, comfortable clothes for active girls aged 6 - 14. Prior to starting a highly successful retail enterprise, Linda was a financial advisor who assisted individuals in navigating their financial plans. Linda will bring to light how the choices that CEOs make can directly affect the outcome of an investment – bringing the evening full circle.
