On January 13, 2016 Minister of Education David Eggen released a document called the "Guidelines for Best Practices: Creating Learning Environment that Respect Diverse Sexual Orientations, Gender Identities and Gender Expressions". With the introduction of this LGBTQ supporting and affirming guide, he also called on Alberta's school boards to create new policies, procedures, and regulations to protect the rights of LGBTQ students and teachers, support gay-straight alliances, and create a safe learning environment.

However, there has been a whirlwind of transphobic and homophobic criticism of these new guidlines circulating in the media. Let's speak up and let the Minister of Education know that we support his calls for change, and support LGBTQ students in Alberta's schools.

Send our letters of support for this important shift towards safer spaces for LGBTQ students, staff and teachers in Alberta's schools to Minister of Education David Eggen by mail or email at
