Ends:

The Hon. Robert E. Wanner, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, will host a service of remembrance in honour of the brave men and women who have served with the Canadian Armed Forces.

"The valiant efforts of our armed forces in safeguarding our nation and defending human rights, democracy and the rule of law at home and abroad must never be abandoned; likewise, the sacrifices and personal pain incurred by the men and women who serve must never be forgotten," said Speaker Wanner. "Through the many peacekeeping and combat missions over the course of the past century they have contributed greatly to a safer and more peaceful global state of affairs."

Open to the general public, the service will include participation by members of the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Salvation Army as well as a wreath-laying ceremony. Two long-serving Members, David Swann and Dave Rodney, will lay wreaths on behalf of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. There will also be performances by The Salvation Army Edmonton Temple Band and the Edmonton Metropolitan Chorus and a poetry reading by Ms. Natasha Bergeron. Her poem entitled, Mon Histoire, Mon Soldat, was a winner of the Royal Canadian Legion's poem and essay competition.
