Meet this Month's Panel

Karen Unland co-founded and leads Capital Ideas, a project for Postmedia in which business owners help business owners by sharing what they know. They do so at live events, online and in the pages of the Edmonton Journal and the Calgary Herald. She worked at the Journal for 14 years, first as a reporter, then as various kinds of editor, and finally as the editor in charge of edmontonjournal.com, before quitting to teach and consult. You can find her on Twitter @karenunland or you can connect with her on LinkedIn. She also does an weekly roundup of Edmonton blog posts on her Tumblr.

Brenton Driedger has spent eight years working in radio newsrooms, most of them earning a living wage. While he's covered everything from hostage-takings to fundraisers, his highlights are still election nights and "job numbers days." In his two years as assistant news director at 630 CHED and iNews880 [for the Corus radio network], Brenton has deleted more emails without reading them than he would like to admit. He spends his weekends wrestling with his two little boys and trying to finish building his garage. Greasy breakfasts are his love language. You can find him on Twitter @dreedge.

Jason Halbauer What do you get when you mix the computer from 2001: A Space Odyssey and a famous skate company? Jason Halbauer (get it?) has been working in media for eight years, mostly in TV. He works as a Segment Producer for Breakfast Television where he does fun stuff like rap with Maestro Fresh Wes on live TV. He also has a regular "tips and tricks" segment called Easy Does it where he mostly just hurts himself. He's also the guy to get in touch with if you want to get on BT. You can find him on Twitter @jasonhalb

Laura Osman is a professional journalist and city hall reporter for CBC Edmonton. She has worked as a producer and reporter across platforms and across Canada. You can find her on Twitter @LauraOsmanCBC

Sponsor a Social Media Breakfast Today!

SMBYEG continues to promote digital literacy in the Edmonton Capital Region with the support of our generous sponsors. Sponsors are the lifeblood of SMBYEG, and the reason why we can afford to keep our monthly breakfast free for our attendees. Each month we need a financial donor to help nourish the bodies of our attendees, while our amazing speakers nourish their minds!

For the low, low cost of $295 you can sponsor a breakfast, help us achieve our mission, and get some great publicity.

Contact smbedmonton@gmail.com or tweet @SMBYEG for more information.

Special thanks toStartup Edmontonfor providing the venue.
