The Edmonton Social Planning Council’s Lunch & Learn Series is a series of engaging lunch-time talks about social issues and organizations that have an impact on our community. Farmers’Markets Beyond Pickles and Carrots

Farmers’ markets are becoming common events throughout Alberta. Many of us regularly head to the market to buy fresh vegetables, baked goods and have fun outings with family and friends. You may be also getting to know some of the farmers and vendors. But there are many other relationships taking place within and between farmers' markets – relationships that are creating advantages for customers and vendors, for individual markets and for markets clustered regionally. Did you know that Alberta now has the highest number of farmers’ markets, per capita, in Canada and that there are 20 markets in the Edmonton region alone? Meet U of A Associate Professor Mary Beckie and learn about the history and growth of farmers’ markets in Alberta and how regional clustering is shaping their development and success.

Join us at the South-East corner of the 1st floor (far-left hand corner) of Stanley A. Milner Library.
