What is PanEx?

PanEx (Panel of Experts) is a night where local developers and designers are given an opportunity to showcase their talents and present their websites, applications or products to a hand-picked team of Edmonton's leading User Experience experts. These experts will critique, praise, analyze and assess, providing invaluable insight into how your product can be taken to the next level.

PanEx 2014 is a unique opportunity if you are looking to generate ideas for your own project, connect with other professionals and learn from User Experience's brightest minds. Attendance is free for Edmonton's night to celebrate innovation and learn from the best. PanEx 2014 will be hosted at the fantastic Startup Edmonton space in the Mercer Warehouse, the premier location for connecting the brightest minds in Edmonton.

The experts

Kelly Mellings -- Pulp Studios -- Kelly Mellings, '00 BFA in Art and Design, is an art director, story-teller, casual beard grower, entrepreneur and an award winning illustrator(Applied Arts award in illustration, several Ace Awards and an American Indian Motion Picture award). In 2010 he founded the boutique illustration, animation and design company Pulp Studios Inc. with fellow University of Alberta alumnus(and award winner) Corey Lansdell. Pulp Studios Inc. has been recognized internationally for excellence in illustration animation and design and has handled everything from illustrating and designing games for clients like Microsoft, to creating motion graphics that educate about intergenerational trauma. He has the most wonderful wife (celebrated commercial photographer Christy Dean) and two amazing daughters (Verite and Mina).

Jess McMullin -- Centre of Citizen Experience -- Jess has worked in design and user experience since 1996. He realized early on that to make the biggest impact he needed to consider the entire system, from service delivery to organizational change.He has worked with Fortune 500s, startups, and innovative public sector organizations. Along the way, he also co-founded the IA Institute and the Overlap innovation retreat, co-chaired the IA Summit (twice!), and started one of Canada's leading UX firms.He now brings his experience to transforming public sector service design and policymaking through his new consultancy, the Centre for Citizen Experience. He writes and speaks worldwide about design, innovation, and transforming the citizen experience.

Sam Jenkins-- Wellnext Inc. -- Sam Jenkins is the CEO and one of the co-founders of Wellnext Inc. (www.getwellnext.com), a technology startup focusing on providing a platform for employers to positively influence employee physical and mental health, financial literacy, and overall workplace culture, through data and analytics, e-learning, incentives, and engagement.In the community, he provides leadership and advisory to a number of different non-profit organizations, as the President and Board Chair for the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival and the ATB Financial Arts Barns. Sam is also a co-founder of Startup Edmonton, an entrepreneur-led social enterprise that aims to amplify innovation and activate startups, while making Edmonton a hotbed for creativity. He also serves as a director of the University of Alberta's Business Alumni Association, as well as a member of the Premier's Council on Culture.
