International Day of Action Against the Tar Sands On the weekend of June 17th people all over the globe will be taking to the streets as part of an International Day of Action Against the Tar Sands and we're hoping you will join them. In Edmonton, people will be gathering at the Alberta Legislature at 10:30 am to join with First Nation leaders and community members from throughout the tar sands region to unveil a huge banner and demand justice. International Day of Action Against the Tar Sands June 17th - 10:30 am (arrive)/11:00 am start Alberta Legislature grounds, Edmonton, Alberta Rally and Giant Banner unveiling First Nation leaders from Athabasca Chipewyan, Mikisew Cree, Dene Suline and others. The tar sands are destroying forests, trampling Indigenous rights, poisoning the atmosphere and river systems and threatening community health. On the weekend of June 17th we will fight back globally! Whether it's forest destruction of areas that ultimately could equal the size of Scotland, toxic lakes that can be seen from space, the trampling of Indigenous rights or the poisoning of Canadian and U.S. communities living near tar sands operations, turning tar sands into transportation fuel hurts our environment and communities every step of the way. Take Action on June 17th! We need your help to send a large and clear message to the Alberta Government that enough is enough! Help us to present a large banner (we need at least 100 pairs of hands!) and show companies and governments around the world that our future can not contain this toxic resource.
