Milner Library Friday afternoons at 2:00 PM in the Audio Visual room.<br> <br> <br> <b>May is a month celebrating the late screen legend Elizabeth Taylor<br> <br> May 6: National Velvet</b> 123 minutes (1944) G<br> This family classic features Elizabeth Taylor in her first starring role as Velvet Brown, a young girl with a passion for horses. With the help of hired hand Mi Taylor (Mickey Rooney), Velvet trains Pie, the horse she saved from the glue factory, to run in the Grand National Steeplechase.<br> <br> <b>May 13: Giant</b> 201 minutes (1956) PG<br> Considered one of Taylor's best performances, this epic, based on Edna Ferber's novel of the same name, won an Oscar for director George Stevens. Also starring Rock Hudson and James Dean in his last film role, <b>Giant</b> tells the story of the rivalry between a cattle ranching family and their oil-rich neighbor.<br> <br> <b>May 20: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof</b> 108 minutes (1958) PG<br> Based on Tennesse Williams' Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same name, Paul Newman plays Brick Pollitt, an alcoholic ex-football player who decides to drink his days away while ignoring the affections of his wife Maggie, played by Elizabeth Taylor. The childless couple faces further tensions when the wealthy patriarch of the family, Burl Ives as Big Daddy, discovers he is dying of cancer. The film is directed by Richard Brooks.<br> <br> <b>May 27: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?</b> 131 minutes (1966) (b&amp;w) TBA<br> Real life couple Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor play a bitter, aging couple who invite over a young couple (played by George Segal and Sandy Dennis) for what turns out to be an evening of alcohol-fuelled verbal abuse and mindgames.
