Ends:

IABC Edmonton is pleased to invite you to join us at our first PD session for this year where Edmonton Journal columnist Paula Simons will talk about the impact of social media on her profession. How are reporters using social media tools in their news gathering? What is the impact of shrinking newsrooms on the ways news is gathered and reported? Are blogs and Twitter changing the nature of journalism, or just adding a new dimension? Paula will discuss these and other questions related to the relationship between social media and journalism, and take questions from attendees. Over her years with the Journal, Paula has served as provincial affairs columnist, culture columnist and as a member of paper's editorial board.

Paula has earned five prestigious National Newspaper Award citations of merit for her editorials, columns and investigative political reporting. In August 2007, she was named an Edmonton Woman of Vision, and in November 2008, she was honoured by the Edmonton Historical Board for her writing on Edmonton history, architecture and heritage preservation.
