DESCRIPTION:Winter Light is pleased to present Common Ground\, a warm heart
 ed gathering of winter spirit in the inner city.  The theme of the event i
 s finding ?common ground? through the sharing of culture.Common Ground bri
 ngs together the vibrant people of Edmonton?s downtown community for a cel
 ebration of universal themes ? tea\, visiting\, drum and fire. The event i
 ncludes participants from Aboriginal\, African\, Italian\, Asian and the m
 any other cultures that make Edmonton home.The event will feature heritage
  shelters\, multicultural tea ceremonies\, snow play activity for children
 \, warming fires\, hot chocolate and special presentations. A Leadership C
 ircle will bring together people interested in fostering winter spirit and
  culture in the inner city.The event is free. Common Ground is produced by
  Winter Light\, and receives support from Heritage Canada\, the Edmonton A
 rts Council.

 for all of Edmonton to enjoy. Entering its twenty-second year\, the Silver
  Skate Festival is the longest running winter festival in the City of Edmo
 nton. The festival is rooted in the Dutch tradition of a love of the outdo
 ors and the pleasure of experiencing the cultural and aesthetic beauty of 
 winter but in recent years the festival has exploded into an extravaganza 
 of art\, culture\, recreation and sports programming.  This is no small fe
 at and would not be possible without the support of our sponsors and in-ki
 nd contributors. Take the time to visit our sponsor page and support the b
 usinesses that support the Silver Skate Festival. It is amazing what we ca
 n accomplish together as a community.The Silver Skate Festival continues t
 o grow and this year we will be expanding the festival to include programm
 ing on the Family Day\, Monday February 20th\, 2012. Festival Programming 
 will include a wide variety of free events and activities to include free 
 programming by River Valley Programming\, our epic ice slide\, family snow
  sculpting\, figure skating demonstrations\, roving performers\, horse dra
 wn sleigh rides\, the Cessco Snow Sculpture Garden\, Night Works in the Pa
 rk: a multimedia extravaganza\, two evenings of fire sculptures and our He
 ritage Village will feature a rich tapestry of heritage performers. This y
 ear's sporting and recreation events will include the Edmonton Winter Tria
 thlon\, long blade skate races and the Kortebaan\, a traditional Dutch lon
 g blade sprint race.
