83 Avenue Bike Route Pre-Construction Meeting

Starts:

Wednesday, May 04
5:00 PM

Ends:

Wednesday, May 04
8:00 PM

The City of Edmonton is hosting pre-construction open houses to present the final design plans and construction staging for the Downtown and Strathcona bike routes. Citizens are invited to drop in anytime during meeting hours to review the information boards and to speak with City staff.

These two routes feature Edmonton's first cycle tracks. A cycle track, is a bike lane that is physically separated from motor vehicle traffic, parked cars and sidewalks. It creates a safe cycling environment and minimizes conflicts between cyclists, pedestrians and drivers.

Construction will begin in early May on the 83 Avenue Bike Route. A bike boulevard from 96 Street to 99 Street will be built this summer. The remainder of the route with the cycle track will be constructed in 2017 and 2018.

For the 102 Avenue Bike Route, construction will begin in mid-June with the installation of a shared-use path from 136 Street to Connaught Drive. The remainder of the route, from Connaught Drive to 111 Street including the cycle track, will be done in 2017 and 2018.

Cycle track construction takes some time as it includes the full reconstruction of the roadway and sidewalks, improvement to the pedestrian space, added landscaping and the installation of new traffic signals and pavement markings.
