This winter, Ice Castles, LLC will bring its popular winter attraction to Canada for the first time as it unveils a massive castle made of ice in Edmonton. The acre-sized winter wonderland is crafted by hand, using only icicles and water, and resembles organic formations found in nature, like those of frozen waterfalls, glaciers or ice caves.

Edmonton's Ice Castle will be built in Hawrelak Park and is in partnership with the City of Edmonton and the Silver Skate Festival. Construction is underway and the Ice Castle is expected to be open to the public late December 2015, through March 2016, weather permitting.

Guests are invited to not only view the beauty of the structure but also to squeeze, squish and crawl through parts of the stunning Narnia-like display. Favorite photo spots can be found in the throne room, in front of the waterfall and throughout the winding ice maze. Children will enjoy zooming down the tubular ice slide and spelunking through small tunnels.

Ice Castles are the brainchild of US-based ice artist Brent Christensen. The Ice Castle features millions of icicles that sparkle a glacial blue by day and glow multi-coloured at night with the help of thousands of LED lights embedded in the ice. Every visitor to the Ice Castle will have a unique experience as the ice is always evolving-freezing, melting, and being reshaped by Ice Castles artisans.

The Ice Castle will be open from 2-9 pm Sunday-Thursday, 2-10 pm on Fridays, and noon-10 pm on Saturdays. General admission tickets for ages 12+ are $8.95 Monday-Thursday and $12.95 FridaySunday. For ages 4-11, tickets are $6.95 Monday-Thursday and $8.95 Friday-Sunday. Listed prices do not include taxes. Senior, military and group discounts are available.
