On June 2, 2015, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) will release its Final Report on Indian Residential Schools in Canada.

TRC is also hosting a 4-day closing event in the National Capital Region from May 31 to June 3. It is working with its national partners to host events in cities and regions across Canada - including Edmonton.

The City of Edmonton, the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations, the University of Alberta, the Edmonton Public Library, the Province of Alberta's Ministry of Aboriginal Relations, Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada-Alberta Region, the Edmonton Police Service, the Edmonton Catholic School Board and the Edmonton Public School Board are partnering to deliver local events commemorating this historic milestone in our collective history.

A sacred fire will be tended outside of Edmonton City Hall for 4 days in parallel with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's closing events taking place in Ottawa.

A tipi will be erected to support the fire keeper and the fire's visitors. Survivors, their families and all citizens are invited to burn their tears at the fire. The ashes collected during the 4 days will be sent to the TRC to commemorate this time in our history.
