As of 2015, millennials (those generally between the ages of 18 and 35) are the largest generation in the North American workplace, and in 2020 will represent 50% of the global workforce. Although motivated by social impact and committed to innovating beyond what is expected of them on paper, Gen Y employees spend less than three years in a job on average, compared to Gen Xers (5 years) and Baby Boomers (7 years), and have significantly different expectations in terms of pay, career paths, personal development and feedback than their predecessors. In a North America workplace that is transforming rapidly, companies that do not adapt to millennials' preferences now will struggle to attract and retain the talent they need to grow in the near future.Emerson Csorba, a Director of Gen Y Inc., recognized by the Globe and Mail as a Canadian disruptor company, shares his experiences and insights on how to not only attract Gen Y talent, but also leverage the skills, ideas and ambitions of this cohort through a multigenerational framework.
