THE MGA REVIEW PROCESSThe Government of Alberta is conducting a full review of the Municipal Government Act to ensure that modern, effective, and leading-edge legislation is in place for citizens municipalities, and businesses.
Over the past three years, UDI Alberta has worked closely with the Alberta Government to identify key review items in the Municipal Government Act. This work has included the Minister's Symposium on Alternative Methods of Financing, direct industry advocacy, and public and stakeholder consultations. Most recently, UDI Alberta has dedicated hundreds of hours to focus group meetings with Municipal Affairs, representatives from municipalities, and industry stakeholders.
THE EVENT - WHAT TO EXPECT
This half-day session will offer attendees a comprehensive, in-depth look at the MGA Review Process as well as a full understanding of the current status of negoations. The session will feature:
Full scale presentation on review process
Understanding of government-led review
UDI Alberta's overarching strategy
Outline of Government's expectations
Highlight of municipalities' position(s)
Information on how to advocate for UDI Alberta
Feature speakers, including representatives from UDI Alberta and CHBA Alberta, will walk attendees through the expected policy shifts and potential amendments for the MGA as well as the timelines associated.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The Municipal Government Act is the legislative framework that provides a governance model for Alberta's cities, towns, villages, municipal districts, specialized municipalities, and other forms of local government. Its application affects developers, builders, and any organizations involved in the building of Alberta.
