Creating a Compelling Story for Television

Creating a Compelling Story for Television

Starts:

Monday, June 16
12:00 PM

Ends:

Monday, June 16
1:30 PM

The second free Community Television Workshop presented by Edmonton Heritage Council and Shaw TV, this hands-on workshop will explain the reverse pyramid style of writing for television. All stories and programs start with a concept and script. We will use techniques to create a script that effectively tells your story on television.

As an added benefit, we will go through the steps to creating an effective media release that actually gets attention. You will learn techniques on style, timing, and delivery methods that can help get your message through the clutter.

Instructors include Jennifer Martin (Program Manager, Shaw TV N.Alberta, On-Air Presenter, Writer, Producer) and Bianca Jade (Reporter/Producer, Shaw TV Edmonton).

This workshop is offered as a complement to our first workshop provided by Shaw TV, an Introduction to Community Television Production, though attendees are not required to attend both.

This workshop is offered as the result of a recent survey in which the Edmonton heritage sector indicated research and development as a high priority in strengthening the Edmonton Heritage Network. Your responses indicated that a better understanding of community television production will allow organizations to better craft their story and message for the local media, and in turn increase the visiblity of local heritage.

Lunch is included and begins at 12:00pm with instruction following at 12:15pm. If you have any dietary requirements, let Ericka know by Monday, June 9th.

Once participants sign up we will email you a brief survey on your expectations and hopes for the course to help refine the content to our group.

If you have any questions, please contact Ericka Chemko, (780) 429-0166, ext. 234 or echemko@edmontonheritage.ca.
