Static Electric is the fourth in a series of improvisational duet dances that choreographer Gerry Morita has created that also bring lighting and sound designers on-stage during the dance. Playing live on stage, Pianist Viktoria Reiswich-Dapp and scenographer and analog projectionist Patrick Ars-Pilon move and manipulate lights, instruments and objects through the performance creating with the dancers.

Improvisation is central to the character of Morita's dance. There is risk, it feels dangerous and exciting, with an 'aliveness' that makes each performance unique. The dance is discovered by artists and audiences as its being danced. The sound includes live piano, old cassettes, records and microphones manipulated by the dancers. Lights moved by the designer during the dance, create intimate zones of light and layers of shadows behind the dancers.

Morita returns to Canoe 2014 from a period of self-study and research surrounding the brain, its functioning, and its peculiarities, focusing on neuro-plasticity, Body-Mind Centering and the work of Oliver Sachs.
