Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival

Each year on the third weekend of August the river valley located near Louise McKinney Park the sound of drumbeats pushing dragon boats up the river to the finish line fills the riverbanks of the North Saskatchewan River. The Festival is a three-day event that lasts from the traditional cultural opening ceremonies Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, in all weather conditions. Spectators and participants alike reacquaint sharing news and compete against each other over the three day festival.

2012 is the Year of the (Male) Black Water Dragon. The dragon is a legendary creature in Chinese astrology. Every twelve years it is the year of the dragon.
