On Clean Air Day (June 6, 2012) The Lung Association, Alberta & NWT in collaboration with The Edmonton Science Outreach Network will recognize the critical thinking of junior high school students in examining air quality issues and their impact on human health. Unique student-led projects from participating Edmonton and area schools will be on display and presented for judging. The work of all the students will be recognized and winners will be announced by distinguished guests from the city and province.

EnviroBLAST (Building Leadership for Action in Schools Today) challenges Alberta junior high school students to think critically about air quality issues through science and enables students to develop their leadership, critical thinking and communication skills. The 2012 program began on February 23 with a workshop of sixty students from Edmonton and surrounding communities. In addition to developing air quality projects at this workshop, students learned about air quality issues from academic and medical experts. Upon completion of the February workshop, students divided into teams for follow-up air quality related projects to be completed, presented and winning projects to be selected by an expert panel of judges at Clean Air Day.

In addition to the exciting finale of EnviroBLAST, Clean Air Day will feature bike-powered live entertainment from Music is a Weapon, and displays from the following partner organizations: City of Edmonton (The Way We Green), Clean Air Strategic Alliance, and the Alberta Capital Airshed Alliance. This event is open to the public, so please come down and celebrate Clean Air Day!
