Shot in black and white, the film has an all-star cast including Gene Wilder as the title character, a descendant of the infamous Dr. Victor Frankenstein. Peter Boyle stars as the monster and Marty Feldman is the bug-eyed hunchback assistant, Igor.
105 min, 1974, b&w, PG

Friday, July 15, 2:00pm
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
Based on Peter Hedges' novel of the same name, this Lasse Halstrom directed film stars Johnny Depp as Gilbert, who is in charge of caring for his mentally handicapped brother Arnie, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. While his obese mother remains incapacitated after years of depression following her husband's suicide, Gilbert and his sisters soldier on, planning Arnie's eighteenth birthday party. Things get complicated when love steps into Gilbert's life in the form of a visiting teenager played by Juliette Lewis.
118 min, 1993, PG

Friday, July 22, 2:00pm
The Iron Giant
Set during the Cold War scare of the fifties, this Brad Bird directed animated feature has become a modern day favorite. Based on Ted Hughes' novel The Iron Man, the film tells the story of a young boy who befriends a huge alien robot that a government agent eventually wants to destroy. Featuring the voices of Jennifer Aniston, Harry Connick Jr., and Vin Diesel among others, the film is a subtle satire of those "duck and cover" days.
86 min, 1999, PG

Friday, July 29, 2:00pm
Where the Wild Things Are
Director Spike Jonze's adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's book tells the tale of lonely eight-year old Max Records, who, after misbehaving and disobeying his mother, runs away from home. His hyper-active imagination helps him to create his own world inhabited by creatures known as the "Wild Things", who declare Max their king. The film is a unique combination of live action, animatronics, performers in costumes and computer-generated imagery. The voices of James Gandolfini, Forest Whitaker, and Catherine O'Hara are featured among others.
99 min, 2009, PG

Visit our Film Series page to watch trailers

Call Norm Frizzell at 780-944-5383 for more information or email: nfrizzell@epl.ca
