Are you working on a story, a poem, a novel or a memoir? Do you need some encouragement, and the fine company of other writers?<br> <br> Drop by Writers' corner at the Stanley A. Milner Library on the last Sunday of each month at 1:30 pm. The EPL Writer in Residence hosts a friendly and supportive gathering with a different guest author each month. The guest author will give an author talk and reading and will then answer your questions and offer advice. Come and talk about your writing in a friendly and supportive atmosphere and listen to the suggestions of professional writers in our community. All writers and readers are welcome. No experience is necessay. Admission is free. Writers' Corner is back with a great author lineup for the New Year. <br> <br> <br> <b>Sunday March 27, 2011 - Drew Hayden-Taylor</b><br> <br> Drew Hayden-Taylor is an Ojibway from the Curve Lake First Nations in Ontario. He has worn many hats in his literary career, from performing stand-up comedy at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., to being Artistic Director of Canada's premiere Native theatre company, Native Earth Performing Arts. He has been an award-winning playwright (with over 70 productions of his work), a journalist/columnist (appearing regularly in several Canadian newspapers and magazines), short-story writer, novelist, television scriptwriter, and has worked on over 17 documentaries exploring the Native experience. Most notably, he wrote and directed REDSKINS, TRICKSTERS AND PUPPY STEW, a documentary on Native humour for the National Film Board of Canada.Through many of his books, most notably the four volume set of the FUNNY, YOU DON'T LOOK LIKE ONE series, he has tried to educate and inform the world about issues that reflect, celebrate, and interfere in the lives of Canada's First Nations. In 2007, Annick Press published his first Novel, THE NIGHT WANDERER: A Native Gothic Novel, a teen novel about an Ojibway vampire. Two years ago, his non-fiction book exploring the world of Native sexuality, called ME SEXY, was published by Douglas &amp; McIntyre. It is a follow up to his highly successful book on Native humour, ME FUNNY. 2010 saw the publication of his 21st book, a novel titled MOTORCYCLES &amp; SWEETGRASS. It was nominated for the Governor General's Award for fiction. In January 2010, his new play, DEAD WHITE WRITER ON THE FLOOR, opened at Magnus Theatre in Thunder Bay to rave reviews. Currently, he is working on a new play titled CREES IN THE CARRIBEAN, a collection of essays called POSTCARDS FROM THE FOUR DIRECTIONS to be published by Talon Books, and a new novel. <br> <br> <b>Sunday April 17, 2011 - Mariko Tamaki</b> Mariko Tamaki's first short novel, Cover Me, was published in 2000. Since then Mariko has published two collections of humorous short fiction, True Lies: The Book of Bad Advice and Fake ID. Most recently Mariko was the co-creator of two graphic novels, Skim, with Jillian Tamaki, and Emiko Superstar, with Steve Rolston. Largely, Mariko's work examines her fascination with the complexities of the social world and the struggles of those people who cannot seem to easily fit into it. Mariko currently works as an English teacher and lectures frequently on creative writing at high schools in Toronto. She is currently working on several projects, including a novel on freshman year titled (You) Set Me on Fire.<br> <br> <b>Sunday May 29, 2011 - Doug Smith</b> is an award-winning Canadian author of speculative fiction, with over a hundred story sales in twenty-nine countries and twenty-four languages around the world, including InterZone, Amazing Stories, Cicada, Baen's Universe, Weird Tales, The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror, Postscripts, On Spec, and The Third Alternative (now Black Static), as well as anthologies from Penguin/Roc, DAW, Meisha Merlin, and others. Doug was a finalist for the international John W. Campbell Award for best new writer, and has twice won the Aurora Award for best SF&amp;F short fiction by a Canadian. He's been an Aurora finalist seventeen times and has numerous honourable mentions in The Year's Best Fantasy &amp; Horror. <br> <br> <b>Sunday June 26, 2011 - Andrew Foley</b> is best-known for co-writing the graphic novel Cowboys &amp; Aliens. He has also written a number of other comics, including DONE TO DEATH, PARTING WAYS, and THE HOLIDAY MEN. All will be rereleased in new formats in 2011, Done to Death as a trade paperback collection, Parting Ways and The Holiday Men as digital comics via Graphic.ly. In between painting and publicly spouting utter nonsense in 140-character bursts, Andrew continues to write and edit projects for various media. <br> <br> <br> <br>
