The Edmonton Community Legal Centre provides effective advocacy and access to justice in a supportive environment to persons living with a low income. Volunteer lawyers host seminars that will:<br><br> ~ discuss legal issues<br><br> ~ outline do-it-yourself steps that can be taken to help resolve related issues<br><br> ~ help participants fill out documents, and<br><br> ~ provide referrals to any applicable legal and community organizations. <br />Thu. Jan. 13, Room 7, 6th floor, 6-8 pm<br> <b>Commencing/Defending a Small Claim</b><br> This seminar explains what is considered a small claim, and how to fill out a statement of claim. This course also covers how to defend yourself when being sued in small claims court and whether or not you need a lawyer to represent you during the process.<br /><br> Sun. Jan. 30, Centennial Room, 2-4 pm<br> <b> Knowing Your Rights as an Employee</b><br> The seminar covers what an employee is entitled to with regard to hours, pay, vacation, severance, etc., and what constitutes 'wrongful dismissal'. <br /><br> Thu. Feb 17, Centennial Room, 6-8 pm<br> <b>The Parole Process</b><br /><br> Mon. Mar 7, Room 7, 6th floor, 6-8 pm<br> <b>Knowing your Rights as a Tenant</b><br> This seminar covers what to consider when moving in, living in, and moving out of a rental unit; the acts which govern you and your landlord when you are renting, such as the Residential Tenancy Act, Mobile Homes Act, etc. This course also covers things a tenant must always do no matter what the circumstances, landlord rights to enter the premises, and when your landlord is acting in violation of your rights as a tenant.<br>
